Motrex EFM, the automotive interior materials platform under Motrex Group, has completed the acquisition of Duol, a leading specialist in automotive interior materials. With this acquisition, Motrex EFM will expand its domestically accumulated expertise in interior materials into the global market.

Motrex EFM announced on the 31st that it has finalized the acquisition of Duol, completing the payment and closing process pursuant to the Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) signed in April. After going through the necessary procedures since signing the agreement, the payment and transfer of shares were completed, making Duol a key affiliate within the Motrex Group’s automotive interior business.

Through this acquisition, Motrex EFM will integrate its flooring and NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) parts with Duol’s fabric, seat covering, and airbag cushion businesses. This will enable the company to build a comprehensive interior materials portfolio covering the entire vehicle interior as well as lay the foundation to expand its business base—previously focused on the domestic market—into global customers and production sites.

Motrex EFM has built its competitiveness in production, quality, and cost through the domestic market, focusing mainly on automotive floor carpets and NVH components. In 2025, its sales reached KRW 159.7 billion.

Duol is a specialized interior materials company manufacturing automotive fabrics, seat coverings, and airbag cushions, and it supplies to major domestic and global automakers. Its consolidated sales reached KRW 796.1 billion in 2025.

Notably, since its acquisition of Swedish seat fabric manufacturer Borgstena in 2017, Duol has expanded its global business base around Europe, securing customer relationships with European automakers such as Volvo and Volkswagen and establishing production and sales networks in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Following the closing of the deal, the two companies plan to prioritize joint orders utilizing their products and customer base, as well as concretize possible synergies in raw material procurement, management of production bases, R&D, and quality management.

By leveraging Duol’s global sales network and localized customer support system, the companies aim to strengthen their package-order capabilities—proposing a variety of interior products from the early stages of new vehicle development. They also plan to build a global supply system that responds flexibly to regional customer needs.

With the rise of autonomous and purpose-based vehicles (PBVs), vehicle interiors are being redefined as spaces for living, working, and relaxation. This trend is driving demand for lightweight materials, eco-friendly fabrics, enhanced soundproofing, and functional textiles. By combining their production capabilities, Motrex EFM aims to stay ahead of changing demands for vehicle interiors, and in the long term, expand its business scope to “in-cabin solutions” by linking with Motrex Group’s electronics technologies.

A Motrex EFM spokesperson said, “With Motrex EFM’s proven competitiveness in production and quality, combined with Duol’s global customer base and overseas manufacturing network, we will gradually expand our verified interior capabilities into international markets. Through joint orders and cross-supply of products, we aim to become a global leader in automotive interior materials.”
